  Chapter One

  GIA

I stare down at the tiny bundle in my arms. “Anna, she’s just so adorable,” I say, smiling down at Willow, her baby daughter.

My friend, Anna, grimaces. “Don’t let that innocent face fool you. She’s quiet like that during the day and as soon as night falls, she turns into some kind of wailing monster.”

“I’ve heard that second child syndrome is a real thing,” says Eva, placing a tray of coffees onto the table. “Malia was a quiet baby,” she adds, referring to Anna’s firstborn.

Anna nods in agreement. “Malia was a breeze. She woke to feed and to have her nappy changed. That was it. Willow’s only happy when she’s in someone's arms. Usually her dad’s.”

I glance over to where Riggs is sitting at the bar of the clubhouse with his VP, Cree. They’re staring at a laptop like it holds all the answers. Riggs is the President of the Kings Reapers MC and our worlds crossed over when my brother, Vinn Romano, began doing business with the club. Since then, I’ve become great friends with the women here.

Leia joins us. She’s pregnant with the Enforcer's baby. She and Chains are the cutest couple. She eases herself down into a chair and I snatch her hand in my own to examine her new engagement ring. “Wow,” I say with a smile.

She holds her finger up and stares at the pretty square cut diamond. “I know, I still can’t quite believe it.”

“He’s got good taste,” I say.

“He didn’t choose it alone,” says Leia, glancing over her shoulder to see if Chains is within ear shot. “Raven,” she whispers.

Anna rolls her eyes. “Not this again,” she says.

“Gia brought it up,” argues Leia. “I’m just telling her that he didn’t choose it alone.”

“But you said it like Raven did a bad thing. She was helping him out,” says Eva.

“I know,” snaps Leia defensively. Chains met Raven in Manchester where he rescued her from the mad president there. She’s had a tough life and Chains befriending her meant that she came to live at the club here. We all like her, including Leia, she’s just having a hard time accepting their close friendship. “When your men get a female BFF, then come and tell me how it makes you feel.”

“Excuse me,” I say, “some of us don’t have a man, thank you.” I hand Willow back to Anna.

Leia grins. “Oops, sorry. Well, when you do get a man, make sure his BFF is a man. It’s tough to accept Chains and her together all the damn time. I’ll be glad when she meets a man of her own.” Leia takes a breath and then lets it out slowly. “I’m sorry, I know I’m being a cow. I didn’t sleep very well last night. I like Raven, I really do.”

“Your brother hasn’t managed to marry you off just yet then?” Anna asks me and I laugh. Vinn’s been trying to set me up with various men who will benefit my family. If I marry into a family with a good, respected name, then it’ll mean my family will become even more powerful than they already are. The trouble with his plan is that I’m not okay with it.

  “He’s a tryer, that's for sure,” I mutter. “He won’t take a hint.”

“He might find a gorgeous man who’ll look after you,” says Leia.

“I don’t need looking after,” I say firmly. “I have my own business and my own mind. Any man who comes into my life will be because I want him to, not because Vinn set it up.”

Blade passes, getting my full attention. I watch his sexy ass all the way to the bar and then I follow. “Blade,” I say with a smile. He glances at me with a wary look on his face. I have flirted my ass off for this guy and he gives me nothing in return, but I’m not one to give up and so I place my manicured hand on his bicep. “Do you fancy getting out of here and taking me somewhere for a quiet drink?” I ask.

“No. I’m seeing the guys tonight,” he says distractedly. Frankie hands him a bottle of beer and he takes a long pull on it. “Another time.”

“You keep saying that and I’m still waiting,” I say with a small laugh.

“Then take the fuckin’ hint,” grumbles Blu. He’s sitting at the bar, star
ing down into his pint glass.

“I’m sorry but I wasn’t talking to you,” I say.

“Apology accepted and I don’t care,” he says without bothering to look up.

“Every time I see you, you’re just that little bit more rude,” I snap.

“And every time I see you, you’re that little bit more desperate,” he retorts. I feel my face redden with anger. “Blade isn’t interested. He can’t be any clearer,” he adds.

Blade smiles awkwardly and then pretends to see someone across the other side of the bar before mumbling some excuse and rushing off. “Now you’ve scared him away,” I hiss.

“No, darlin’, you did that with your desperation. You may as well get on your knees and beg him for a fuck,” Blu mutters before downing the rest of his pint and tipping his glass to Frankie for a top-up.

“I feel sorry for you,” I snap. “You must have got hurt real bad by someone to make you so bitter and nasty.” I turn on my heel and stomp back over to the girls, who have all witnessed my humiliation. “Not a word,” I mumble and they rush to make new conversation.

  BLU

I don’t know why Gia pisses me off so much. Yeah, she’s a mafia princess, but she ain’t that bad and yet I still feel the need to belittle her at every opportunity.

Riggs joins me, cradling his new baby girl in his arms. “I got a job for you tomorrow,” he says.

“Monday isn’t great for me, Pres. I need to be done by five p.m.”

Riggs eyes me for a few seconds. “It’s a big job, a good pay-out.”

“I can’t change the thing at five. You get me done by then and I’ll happily do it. If not, then ask Chains,” I say, pulling out my phone and checking it.

“What can you possibly be doing that speaks louder than money?” he asks, shaking his head. “In fact, don’t answer that. Maybe I’m better off not knowing.”

I drain the rest of my drink as I stand. “I gotta run. Let me know if you need me before five tomorrow.”

I stop my bike outside Hannah’s. My ex opens the front door before I’m even off my bike and leans against the door frame. I slip off my helmet and head towards her. “You look tired,” she says thoughtfully.

“Good to see you too,” I say, sarcastically. I follow her inside to the kitchen, where the smell of meat roasting fills my nostrils.

“A sucker for a roast dinner,” says Alice, looking up from her laptop. “You look tired,” she adds and I roll my eyes.

“Aren’t you sleeping well again?” asks Hannah. I take a seat at the table, opposite Alice. “I have some herbal remedies we can try.”

Alice then rolls her eyes and we share a smirk. “I’m good, thanks. Where’s Molly?” I ask.

“Time out,” both the women say together and then laugh at their accidental sync. “She wasn’t very kind to another kid at the park today. I’m dreading her starting the new school tomorrow,” says Alice.

“What did the other kid do to her?” I ask and Alice glares at me. They always tell me I’m too quick to defend her, but she’s my kid, that’s my job.

“She’s got to learn to play nice with other kids, Blu. It would be helpful if you could tell her that instead of making excuses for her,” says Hannah sternly.

Alice closes her laptop and begins setting the table for dinner. After me and Hannah split two years ago, I was pissed when I found out she was dating. Then finding out she was dating a woman, well, let’s just say my pride was dented massively. We soon learnt to live in harmony for our little girl because drama brings nothing but sadness and misery and I face enough of that every day.

I head upstairs to the bright pink fairy-themed room where I find Molly curled up on her bed, pouting. “What’s going on, Molls?” I ask and she smiles wide when she hears my voice.

“Daddy!” she squeals, throwing herself at me. I smother her chubby little face in kisses and she giggles, pushing my head away.

“Why are you up here in time-out?”

Her pout returns. “Alice didn’t listen to me,” she mutters. “The boy was being mean.”

  “What did he say?”

“That I wasn’t allowed to play with his friend. I was trying to be a nice girl.”

I try to hide my smirk at her five-year-old outburst. “Start it from the beginning.”

I take a seat on her princess bed and she stands before me, hands on her hips, with a sassy attitude she gets from her mum. “I was playing on the slide with a girl and then the boy came later on and told her she had to go with him. I tried to follow and he was mean and said I wasn’t allowed to play with them, but I was playing with her first.”

  “So what did you do?”

She lowers her eyes. “Pushed him.”

“You know that ain’t right. You won’t make friends round here by pushing kids, Molls.”

  “He deserved it,” she mumbles.

“If he didn’t want you to play and the other girl was too weak to stand up to him, then it’s their loss. Move on and find another friend,” I say and she nods, causing her brown ringlets to bounce. “Now, let’s go and eat dinner before it gets cold.” I sweep her up in my arms and carry her downstairs.

Sunday dinner is one of my favourite times of the week. I sit back and listen to Hannah and Alice speak about their week and they fill me in on their move here from Manchester and some of the things that went wrong. “So anyway, we just went and ordered a new couch because what’s the point in getting that tatty old one repaired?” says Alice with a laugh.

“It was my comfy couch,” moans Hannah. “I loved it.”

Normal chat is what I crave the most. Listening to them talk about ordinary everyday shit makes me feel like them and I can almost pretend that this is my life—normal.

“Mummy wants a new baby,” announces Molly and the two women fall silent. I arch my brow in Hannah’s direction and she blushes. Hannah never blushes!

“That’s enough talking. Eat your dinner,” says Alice firmly.

“You wanna fill me in on that?” I ask, keeping my eyes fixed on Hannah.

“Molly must have overheard—” begins Alice, but I shush her and wait for Hannah to speak.

“I was going to talk to you about it, but not like this,” says Hannah quietly. “I thought we could meet for coffee one lunchtime?”

I scoff. “You wanna meet for coffee?”

“I just thought maybe a calm setting and-” she begins.

“We never talk over coffee, Hannah. Tell you what,” I snap. “I’m here now so let’s just get shit out in the open.”

“Molly, why don’t you go and watch television,” suggests Alice.

“And why don’t you join her,” I snap.

“Blu, it’s kind of something that we all should talk about,” says Hannah calmly, but I’m past calm and when I stand she nods to Alice for her to do as I’ve said. I wait for them to leave and then glare down at Hannah.

“A baby? How the fuck is that gonna work?”

Hannah smiles and it pisses me off more. “Blu, this is the twentieth century. Lesbians can have babies.”

“Newsflash, you need a man and a woman to create life. That shit doesn’t go out of fashion.”

“I love Alice,” she says with a sigh. “And I want us to have a child together. Molly would love a brother or sister.”

“Half brother or sister,” I mutter.

“It doesn’t have to be,” says Hannah with a hint of hope in her voice.

  Chapter Two

  GIA

Vinn drops down into the seat opposite my desk. My office is small, just big enough for me and my assistant, Eva, to have a desk each and a few extra seats for clients. I also have some storage space out back, but it’s mainly full of junk. My company, Giazilla, is my baby. I got this business off the ground with hard work and dedication. Now, I have a great reputation for knowing my shit when it comes to events, such as weddings, birthdays and any other celebrations that require organisation. “What do you want, big brother?” I
ask.

“Why won’t you let Dad move you from this pokey little office to somewhere bigger?” he asks, looking around the small space.

“That’s not why you came,” I say with a sigh.

“Okay, hear me out,” he begins and I groan because whenever Vinn says that line, it means I’m gonna hate whatever it is he has to say. “Ricardo Donini,” he announces proudly.

“The boy who once pinned me to the floor and put his wet lips on mine?” I ask, screwing up my face in disgust.

“He did what?” asks Vinn. I clearly never told him that story.

“In his defence, he was eight years old, but still—it put me off kissing for life.”

“His Dad just died, and he’s taking his family in a new direction. He needs us, and what better way to help than to join us by marriage?”

“Bullshit,” I mutter. “You say he needs us, but what do you need from him?”

“Your mind is so suspicious,” says Vinn, casually leaning back in the chair. His bodyguard, Gerry, taps on the office window and points to his watch. “I have to go. I need Gerry on a job for me later, so he won’t be around to collect you after work. Riggs is sending someone instead seeing as he let me down on the manpower side of things,” he says, standing up and fastening his suit jacket. I smile, he reminds me of Dad when he does that.

“I have appointments all afternoon,” I say. “I’ll be done by four.”
